Tashlik or The Honey of Forgiveness

Bird of Peace Challah for New Year’s from www.Betterbaking.com

Dressed in New Year’s clothes
Our shoulders draped in the rich sun
Of a chance Indian summer day
We gather at the water’s edge
To toss small crumbs of bread
Flecks of white paper
Into its gentle, unsuspecting current

The tiny bits flutter and scatter
Like little flags of surrender
Lift and swirl
Like miniature doves
Emissaries of hope and regret
Forgive, forget,
Go free
Do better
Go on
Go forward

Whatever it is,
Let it go.

Give a sigh for a year now past
Add a prayer that the good things last
And whatever it is,
Let it go.

Just let it go.
