Court Side
I will always argue
For the Heart
When Reason comes knocking
Pretending to be smart.
Instead of the fact
Or the obvious truth
I’ll choose instinct and magic
Love more, question less —
Regardless of the start.
I’ll take whatever end there is,
Those both polite and kind
And those that threaten or snidely bait.
It’s no matter — I can’t be felled
I will lead instead
With chin held high
And heroically face my fate
Knowing at least I tried.
In the face-off between sense and sensibility,
Between intellect and instinct —
In the battle of wit versus will —
I’ll take the odds doled by the dealer
In service to the house
Where only the final tally counts
And Love can’t be held hostage by Doubt.
While it doesn’t matter
I shall never bend.
And I will always and ever
Argue for the heart.
